1   Thankful's father was John Wheeler and her mother was Sarah Stearns.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Wheeler and Sarah Unknown; her maternal grandparents were Isaac Stearns and Sarah Beers. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, John, Thomas, Jonathan, Nathan, Ebenezer, Sarah and Abigail. She had six half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Obadiah, Daniel, Jabez, Ichabod, John, John, Mary, Sarah, Abigail, Mary, Elizabeth and Ann.1
