Enos Thompson Throop, 12th governor (1829-32) Born in Johnstown, Montgomery County, New York on August 21, 1784; lawyer; clerk of Cayuga county; member of Congress, 1815-1816; circuit judge of New York, 1823-27; elected lieutenant governor, 1828; became acting governor when Martin Van Buren became secretary of state of the United States, March 12, 1829; elected governor, 1830, serving 1831-1832; naval officer of the port of New York, 1833-1838; United States minister to Naples, 1838-42: died at Auburn, New York, November 1, 1874.
