1   Martha's father was John Strayhorn and her mother was Elizabeth Johnston.  Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert Strayhorn and Margaret Roan. She had eight brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Gilbert, William, Abner, George, Samuel, David, Bryant, Jane, Mary and Nancy.1
