1   Charles' father was John Strayhorn and his mother was Elizabeth Johnston.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Strayhorn and Margaret Roan. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Gilbert, William, Abner, George, Samuel, David, Bryant, Jane, Mary, Nancy and Martha.  He died in 1855.1
