Mary Dow was born in 1831 in Morgan, Tennessee.1   Mary Dow's father was Thomas Stonecipher and her mother was Elender Goddard.  Her paternal grandparents were Ezra Stonecipher and Susan Curtis; her maternal grandfather was Thomas Goddard. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Jesse, Wayne, Curtis, Timothy, Ezra T, Joseph, Lavina, Louisa, Elizabeth, Susannah and Ruth Mahala.  She was the third oldest of the twelve children.1
