Thomas Spencer 
Thomas was born about 1607 in Stotfeld, near London, Beds.,Eng and his baptism took place on March 29th, 1607 in Stotfold, Bedfordshire, England.1 2 Thomas' father was Gerrard Spencer and his mother was Alice Whitbread. His paternal grandparents were Michael Spencer and Elizabeth Unknown; his maternal grandparents were John Whitbread and Eleanor Unknown. He had six brothers and two sisters, named John, Henry, Richard, Michael, Gerald, William, Rachel and Elizabeth. He died on September 11th, 1687 in Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.1 General Notes

Will of Barnabas Derifield of Braintree, MA proved 1680: gave estate to kinsman Samuel Spencer who was to give brothers Obadiah and Thomas 40 shillings each. Since these are the 3 sons of Sergt. Thomas by 1st wife and since will of Sergt. Thomas cuts off son Samuel with little "he having rec. a good portion from his Uncle" decide that 1st wife was sister of Barnabas Derifield (see N.E. Reb. Jul 1951) Will of Sergt Thomas made "cousin" Samuel Spencer (nephew) his overseer.
home lot in 1639 Hartford on east side of Main St & Windsor St.; served in Pequot War; chimney viewer 1650; constable north side 1658; surveyor of highways 1621; sergeant of the train band 1650, and rec. 1671 a grant of 60 acres "for his good service in the country".
