John Henry was born on November 2nd, 1885.1   John Henry's father was Charles H. Simmons and his mother was Mary Emma Brockie.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Simmons and Lydia Parsons; his maternal grandparents were John Laidlaw Brockie and Hannah Steele. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Arthur James, Stuart Edgar, Edwin Charles, Lydia Hannah, Laura Mae, Mable, Louise, Wilma Marion, Doris Ione, Gladys Ruby and Rose Evelyn.1
