Johanna was born on September 17th, 1843 in Marxhagen, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany.  Johanna's father was Christoph Schroder and her mother was Wilhelmine Johanna Friederike Biedersteadt. She had three brothers and a sister, named Friedrich, August Christian Julius, Christian and Wilhelmine Fredericke.  She was the third oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 64 on May 19th, 1908 in Riley Township, Clinton County, Michigan.
