Philip was born in 1762.1   Philip's father was Jacob Roller and his mother was Mary Hammer.  His maternal grandparents were Johannes Hammer and Jane. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Jacob, Michael, John, Baltzer, Caleb, Margaret and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.1
