Dr. Asaph Rice. He entered Harvard and graduated from there in 1799. He received his medical degree in Dartmouth College about 1803.
He lived in Oxford, New Hampshire and then moved to Lewistown, Illinois.
The family were charter members of the First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown, Illinois. He was an elder of the church.
He died in Lewistown at the age of 94 at the home of his son Amory with whom he had resided since the death of his wife Abigail. In his later years, he was quite deaf and was given a seat in church at one side of the pulpit. His son-in-law, Myron Phelps, who was similarly afflicted sat on the other side.
