Mary Elizabeth was born on June 3rd, 1887 in Beaufort Co., SC.1 Mary Elizabeth's father was John William Popham and her mother was Katherine Eliza Mulligan. Her maternal grandparents were Francis Mulligan and Eliza Lavonia Dean. She had five brothers and five sisters, named George Francis, Andrew Caulder, John Bernard, Willeridge Jones, Percey Edward, Eliza Rebecca, Sarah B., Goldie V., Annie C. and Irma Vivian.
