Pierre's father was Nicolas Petit and his mother was Marie Pomponnelle.  His paternal grandparents were Nicolas Petit and Catherine Asselin; his maternal grandparents were Jean Pomponnelle and Michelle Boulet. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Louis, Jacques, Paul, Nicolas, Michel, Jeanne, Marie Renee, Marie Gertrude and Marie Francoise.
