Mary was born on July 29th, 1804.1   Mary's father was James Palmer and her mother was Abigail Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuell Palmer and Ann Evans; her maternal grandparents were Moses Smith and Lydia Tappan. She had five brothers and a sister, named James, Moses Smith, Samuel, Benjamin, Joseph and Abigail.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.1
