John was born about 1640.1   John's father was Thomas Norton and his mother was Grace Wells.  His paternal grandparents were William Norton and Dennis Chelmsby. He had a brother and four sisters, named Thomas, Anne, Grace, Mary and Abigail. He had a half-sister named Grace.1
