Richard was born about 1159 in Of, Staffordshire, England.1   Richard's father was Robert Noel and his mother was Alice Mounfort.  His maternal grandfather was Hugo Mounfort. He had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Philip, Robert, John and Alice.  He was the youngest of the six children.1
