Marshall was born on December 13th, 1821.1   Marshall's father was Ephraim Kyes and his mother was Esther Friermouth.  His paternal grandparents were Asahel Kyes and Sarah Mosier. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Asahel, Alpheus, William Bush, John A., Margaret, Theresa Jane, Fanny and Abigail.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.1
