Alpheus was born on March 22nd, 1824 in Landsdowne, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada.1   Alpheus' father was Ephraim Kyes and his mother was Esther Friermouth.  His paternal grandparents were Asahel Kyes and Sarah Mosier. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Asahel, Marshall, William Bush, John A., Margaret, Theresa Jane, Fanny and Abigail.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 92 on December 10th, 1916 in Valley Center, Sanilac Co., Michigan.1
