Emily was born on April 13th, 1844.1   Emily's father was Henry Kennedy and her mother was Polly DeLoach.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Kennedy and Cynthia Unknown. She had two brothers and five sisters, named William Henry, Alexander, Nancy, Miram, Polly Ann, America S. and Luvincy.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.1
