1   Lee's father was Jesse Jernigan and his mother was Sarah Collins.  His paternal grandparents were Jesse Jernigan and Martha Underwood Holland. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Henry, John, Mel, Tom, Debbie, Eva and Mattie.1
