Violet's father was William Hopp and her mother was Augustina Glentz.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Hopp and Johanna Maria Adrian; her maternal grandparents were John Glentz and Augustina Prahl. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Marlow, Clarence, Elmer, Beatrice and Bernice.
