Arthur was born about 1726.1   Arthur's father was Robert Hemphill and his mother was Unknown Stewart. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Alexander, Samuel, Mary, Catharine, Elizabeth, Ann and Eleanor.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.1
