Nancy was born about 1840 in NC.1   Nancy's father was Abner H. Hawkins and her mother was Leutina Lurina Brown.  Her maternal grandfather was Hugh Brown. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Britain, Elihu, Margaret and Mary.  She was the youngest of the five children.1
