Britain was born about 1830 in NC.1   Britain's father was Abner H. Hawkins and his mother was Leutina Lurina Brown.  His maternal grandfather was Hugh Brown. He had a brother and three sisters, named Elihu, Margaret, Mary and Nancy.  He was the second oldest of the five children.1
