1   Martha's father was John Hawkins and her mother was Mary.  Her paternal grandparents were William Hawkins and Lydia Ballou Gardner. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Isiah, Jeremiah, Stephen, Zephaniah, Abigail, Lydia, Mary and Sarah.1
