Clement was born about 1849.1   Clement's father was John Gordon and his mother was Polly Ann Moseley.  His paternal grandparents were Alexander Gordon and Liza Unknown; his maternal grandparents were Cleman T. Moseley and Nicey A. Sullivant. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Alexander, John W., Crawford T., Augustus, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Laura Ann and Missouri.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.1
