William Err Fierce 
William Err was born on March 10th, 1843 in Strawtown, Hamilton Co., Indiana.1 William Err's father was Ebenezer W. Fierce and his mother was Mary Criswell. His paternal grandparents were Conrad Fierce and Elizabeth Wilson; his maternal grandparents were Robert Criswell and Elizabeth Byrd. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Fernando Wilson, Robert Clark, Alexander B., Elizabeth, Florence Estella, Margaret J., Mary E. and Laura Anise. He was the oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 52 on July 10th, 1895 in Van Wert, Decatur Co., Iowa.1 General Notes

An article from the Decatur County Newspaper:
Fierce: The William E. Fierce home, Section 34, near the Des Moines and Kansas City Railroad, was serving as a Post Office in 1887. It was given the name of "Fierce" for his father E. W. Fierce, an honored pioneer of the settlement. Anise Fierce, sisster of William E. was postmistress. The letters were deposited througoh a slot in the door. Since the trains did not stop the bags of mail were tossed off the train and the outgoing mail would be picked up by a fork or hook.
Note from Mrs. Russell Fierce: "By now (1995) the house has been demolished. Going through Russell's grandmother's (Anna Fierce) papers we found some letters with the Fierce, Iowa post office."
