John was born in 1842 in Tippecanoe, IN.1   John's father was John J. Doyle and his mother was Sarah Jane Wilson. He had five brothers and three sisters, named William, Carlton W., Thomas, Elias, Samuel, Sarah Maria, Ida Ann and Jane.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.1
