Matilda's father was Melvill Cowart and her mother was Mary Ann Boyett. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Boyett and Matilda Holland. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Elliot, Marvin, Olen, Reppard, Annie, Laura, Neete and Sweetie.-
