Bertha's father was Raymond Edgar Clark and her mother was Annabel Otis. Her paternal grandparents were David William Clark and Sarah Elizabeth Ackerman; her maternal grandparents were Ransford Otis and Sabra Forbes Gates. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Eldred Arthur, Lee Otis, Leroy, Muriel Edith and Rhea.-
