Thomas was born about 1752 in Daventry, Northants., Eng..1 Thomas' father was John Chamberlain and his mother was Alice Unknown. His paternal grandparents were John Chamberlain and Ann Unknown. He had a brother and two sisters, named John, Rebecca and Ann. He was the second youngest of the four children.1
