Valentine was born about 1818 in New York.1   Valentine's father was William Burras and his mother was Abigail Jeffries. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William Hadrick, Samuel J., Reuben Miles, John, Nancy, Phoebe, Abigail and Rebecca Jane.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  He died before 1902.1
