William was born about 1680.  William's father was Richard Buffington and his mother was Ann Francis.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Boveington and Ann Unknown. He had four brothers and eight sisters, named Richard, John, Joseph, Thomas, Abigail, Alice Alis, Ann, Elizabeth, Hannah, Lida Lydia, Mary and Ruth. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Richard and Abigail.
