Clifford was born in September 1892 in Screven Co., GA.1   Clifford's father was John L. Brinson and his mother was Emma Peel.  His maternal grandparents were Dempsey Peel and Ellender Sasser. He had four brothers and a sister, named Sidney, Quincy, Francis, Rexford and Ola.  He was the third oldest of the six children.1
