William was born in Simsbury, Ct..1   William's father was Jacob Bissell and his mother was Mary Gillette. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Samuel, Jonathan, Ephraim, Esther, Hannah, Martha, Mary, Miriam and Sarah.1
