Mary was born on September 3rd, 1854 in Near Windle Hall,St. Helens,Prescot,Lncshr.1 Mary's father was James Battersby and her mother was Jane Lilley. Her paternal grandparents were William Battersby and Elizabeth; her maternal grandparents were William Lilley and Mary. She had a brother and seven sisters, named William, Ellen, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Sarah, Hannah, Jane Lily and Margaret.1 -
