Elizabeth was born in 1842 in Collinsville, Madison Co, Illinois.1   Elizabeth's father was Adam Ambrosius and her mother was Catherine Bradenstein.  Her paternal grandmother was Catherine. She had two brothers and a sister, named Nicolas, Conrad Adam and Martha.  She was the second youngest of the four children.1
