Alvin L. Stradling, the present county assessor of Apache County,
has spent practically his entire life in this section of the
country and among those who know him best he is regarded as a
man of stanch character and dependable judgment. He was born in
St. Johns, Arizona on the 29th day of September 1895 and is a
son of Joseph O. and Sina (Thompson) Stradling, the former of
whom came to Arizona territory from Utah in 1880. They became
the parents of eleven children, ten or whom are living, and
Alvin L. is the fourth in order of birth.

The latter secured his education in the grade and high schools
of St. Johns, after which he learned the carpenter trade and
for eleven years was engaged in contracting in this and
neighboring states. He is a good workman, does well whatever
he undertakes, and enjoys a wide reputation for his
responsibility as a contractor. In 1928 he was elected to
the office of county assessor and is now discharging the duties
of that position in a very acceptable manner.

On April 17, 1921 Mr. .Stradling married Katherine Greet, and
they are the parents of two children: Margaret, aged six years
and Merwin,aged three years.

Mr. Stradling is a veteran of the World War in which he saw two
years of service with the Forty Seventh Regiment U.S. Infantry,
Fourth Division and was overseas ten months. He was honorably
discharged on April 24, 1919 and is now a member of the American
Legion. His religious membership is with the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints and he stands consistently for
those things which are conducive to right living and the well
being of society. He is a genial and approachable man and
throughout this community is held in high personal regard.
