Minnie Myrtle Whitson 
Minnie Myrtle was born on March 5th, 1900 in Perry, TN. Minnie Myrtle's father was Joseph W Whitson and her mother was Laura Edna Barry. She had six brothers and a sister, named John Barry, William Daniel, Joe Allen, Jessie Floyd, Edward Carmack, Earl Jackson and Grace Lucille. She died at the age of 7 on May 5th, 1907 in Flat Woods, MS.General Notes
Family tradition states that Minnie died from medicine given to her by a
local physician. Her grandfather, T.T. Barry, MD, came down to visit from
Perry Co. When he saw her and the medicine, he began to prepare his
daughter, Edna, for Minnie's death. After the death of Minnie, Joseph took
his gun to shoot the physician. Edna stopped him. His grief was such that
he left his family and went to Mississippi to live for a while. Edna and
her children returned to live with her parents until Joseph's return.
Minnie's tombstone reads, 'Farewell Sweet Myrtle Thou shalt ever be a star
to guide us to heaven and to thee'
