Martha Jane was born in 1864. Martha Jane's father was John Pollock and her mother was Mary Jane Boyd. Her paternal grandparents were John (Fiddler) Pollock and Martha Ross; her maternal grandparents were Nathaniel Boyd and Sarah Boyd. She had four brothers and four sisters, named James, John, Solomon, William, Eliza, Anna Maria, Sarah and Mary Agnes. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children. She died in .-
