Mary Jane was born on January 12th, 1837 in Gore Twp, Dist 17, Canada. Mary Jane's father was James Hamilton and her mother was Mary Hammond. Her maternal grandparents were Matthew Hammond and Ann Jane Madill. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Joseph, William, Matthew, James, Elizabeth, Margaret, Sarah Ann and Isobel.
