Philipp Landgraf was born in 1896. Philipp Landgraf's father was Friedrich Karl Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel and his mother was Margarete von Preussen. His paternal grandparents were Friedrich Wilhelm von Hessen-Kassel and Anna von Preussen. He had five brothers named Friedrich Wilhelm, Maximilian, Wolfgang Moritz, Christoph and Richard. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 84 in 1980.-
