Catherine C. was born on February 19th, 1830 in Aurelius, Cayuga, NY.1 Catherine C.'s father was Luther Van Giesen and her mother was Melinda Slayton. Her maternal grandparents were Phineas Slayton and Experience Gleeson. She had three brothers and a sister, named Montgomery, Martin Luther, James and Margaret. She was the oldest of the five children.1 -
