Samuel was born about 1642 in Connecticut.1   Samuel's father was Robert Royce.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Royce. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Nehemiah, Joshua, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Isaac, Sarah, Patience and Ruth.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  He died in 1711.1
