Ludwig II von Hessen und dem was born in 1777. Ludwig II von Hessen und dem's father was Ludwig I Landgraf von Hessen-Darmstadt and his mother was Louise von Hessen-Darmstadt. His paternal grandparents were Ludwig lX von Hessen-Darmstadt and Karoline Palatine von Zweibruecken-Birkenfeld. He had four brothers and a sister, named Georg, Friedrich, Emil, Gustav and Luise. He was the oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 71 in 1848.
