Her paternal grandparents were William I Of+ Normandy and Matilda Of+ Flanders; her maternal grandparents were Malcolm III Of+ Scotland and Margaret Of+ England. She had two brothers and a sister, named William Of, Richard Of and Euphemia Of. She had six half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Robert Fitzroy Of, Renaud De+, Henry+, Robert De Caen Of+, William De+, Robert, Sybilla Of+, Joan Elizabeth Of+, Mathilde Maud Of+, Maud Of+, Alice+, Constance+ and Emma+. She died on September 10th, 1169 in Notre Dame, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France. She was buried in Bec Abbey, Le Bec-Hellouin, Eure, France.General Notes
?1135-50 De-facto Soverign Duchess Mathilda of Normandie (France) 1141-47/52 Sovereign Lady Domina of England 1141 Queen Regnant (2/2-September) [8th of April-1st of November] Matilda or Maud (She was christened Adelaide and took the name Mathilde upon her marriage in 1114). (She) was the only (living) daughter of Henry V of England by Queen Matilda and was sister of William the Ætheling, heir to the English and Norman thrones. On January 7, 1114, she married the Holy Roman emperor Henry V, who died in 1125, and secondly with Geoffrey of Anjou 1128. She was the only legitimate (daughter) of her father's around 20 children. In 1127, she was hailed as her father's successor and her cousin, Stephen de Blois, swore an oath recognizing her as heir, but broke it after Henry's death, and in her absence he usurped the title. She claimed the throne of England in 1139 and deposed King Stephen in April 1141. Elected "lady of the English" by a clerical council at Winchester in April, she entered London in June; but her arrogance and tactless demands for money provoked the citizens to chase her away to Oxford before she could be crowned queen. Her forces were routed at Winchester in September 1141, and thereafter she maintained a steadily weakening resistance in the west country. Left England in 1148 and returned to Normandy, where she was Duchess Regnant here (1135-67). Her son, Henri d'Anjou, became King Henry II."
