Martha was born about 1600 in Burgh Hall, Staffordshire, England. Martha's father was Thomas Knightley and her mother is Elizabeth Shuckburgh. Her paternal grandparents are Valentine Knightley and Anne Ferrers. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Richard, Samuel, Edward, Nathaniel, Thomas, Jane, Mary, Anne, Frances and Elizabeth.
