Catherine was born on October 31st, 1814 in Arlington St., Middlesex, England. Catherine's father was George Augustus Herbert and her mother was Catherine Woronzow. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Herbert and Elizabeth Spencer. She had three sisters named Elizabeth, Emma and Georgiana. She is the second youngest of the four children.
