"FAMILY FILE OF REN NEVILLE" Ren Neville beschutzer@@earthlink.net (excerpts of the narrative provided by Mr. Renville shown below):
"Now for the Scots Peerage... It has: Sir James Hamilton of Cadzow, succeeded his father before 1392. He married before or about 1388, Jacoba. daughter of Sir James Douglas of Dalkeith and had issue: 1. JAMES who succeeded, (see below) 2. DAVID, said to be the ancestor of the Hamiltons of Dalserf. 3. WALTER of whom little is known. He is named in a charter dated 20 May 1441, by Sir James Hamilton of Cadzaw, afterwards Lord Hamilton, granting to his cousin James Hamilton, son of the late Walter Hamilton, the lands of Raploch and others. This Walter therefore seems to be the true ancestor of the Hamiltons of Raploch and others. The Thomas referred to in this connection in the House of Hamilton, and described as of Daragabee is not found so styled, and he appears to have been a servant and not a son of the family. JAMES, d. bef. 1440 and married Janet, dau of Alexander Livingstonee, Lord of Callendar, on 20 Oct 1422. Their first son was James, 1st Lord Hamilton. Accepting this account, it still leaves unresolved the descent of Archibald, the father of the vicar of Dunlop. My guess is that this Archibald was either son or grandson of the James Hamilton who was granted Raploch by Sir James Hamilton of Cadzow, later Lord Hamilton."
