Osbert+ was born about 1188 in Brimsfield, Gloucestershire, England. Osbert+'s father was Elias Helias+ Giffard and his mother is Maud Fitzharding+ De Berkeley. His paternal grandparents were Elias II+ Giffard and Berta De+ Clifford; his maternal grandparents were Maurice+ Fitzharding and Alice De+ Berkeley. He had two brothers named Hugh+ and Elias IV+.
