Ercole I D' was born on October 26th, 1431. Ercole I D''s father was Niccolo III D' Este and his mother was Ricciarda Di Saluzzo. His paternal grandfather was Alberto I D' Este and his paternal grandmother is Isotta Albaresani; his maternal grandparents were Tommaso III Di Saluzzo and Marguerite De Pierrepont. He had a brother named Sigismondo D'. He was the older of the two children. He had eight half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Meliaduse D', Alerto Carlo D', Ugo D', Leonello D', Borso D', Alberto D', Gurone D', Rinaldo D', Ginevra D', Lucia D', Margherita D', Isotta D', Beatrice D', Bianca D' and Margherita D'.
